They fought for their country because their country asked them to. They gave the last measure of their physical existence for us. Stop a minute and think about the millions who died, or were disabled in our name at our behest. They fought for the warrior next to them, in front of them and in back of them. They were one with each other and our nation. The safety and welfare of their fellow warriors was first in their minds as they confronted known or even certain death.
Let’s give them what they fought for — respect. Let’s remember that we are all one nation with liberty and justice for all. All means all, whether they are like us or not, whether they agree with us or not. Young boys and girls died for us to keep on stumbling our way through life seeking a better society.
They never gave up. Why should we?
